Default Gill and his shear thrills.

It's time I made a log, with your guys help I hope I will be able to stick with a somewhat regular routine. I am planning on going with a 4 day split; back/bi, chest/tri, legs/?shoulders?, rest/run/heavybag. Leg day will be short, that's why I tossed shoulders in there, it may not be a good idea but I'll see as I go.

I will get some measurements and weight tomorrow maybe.

On to todays workout.

BB Rows
105 x 5
105 x 5

DB Rows
55 x 9
55 x 9

BB Shrugs
135 x 8
135 x 8

BB Curls
55 x 8
55 x 7

Deadlifts
185 x 8
185 x 10

Comments:- Took 45 mins.
- I was going slow to try and get form down so weights and number of sets are low. (especially on the shrugs) plus I was making the routine up as I went.
- I did do Warm up sets however I never thought to write anything down at the time.
- My arms were failing on BB rows before I felt anything in my back, thus the DB rows were added.

If anyone has suggestions please share, I'm making this routine up on the fly.

Reps if someone comes up with a better title, because the one I have now doesn't make much sense.

That's a good start. I suggest backing off on all weights and doing high reps until you are making a strong mind and muscle connection with excellent pumps really feeling it in the target muscle group. At that point, slowly increase the weights using the progressive overload principle.

solid advice. The last couple times I've tried getting into a routine I was aiming for a 5x5 program type deal but I have realized that pushing heavy weights (without results) is all about ego, so I will definitely move to higher reps may take some time to get used to it though.

nice names.

Hey your split looks fine, shoulders and legs are a pretty good combo...the only thing I don't like is that you wouldn't be putting maximum emphasis on one of them...so if you start with squats, you'll be having great gains there but not as great on overhead press and vice verca, I've always noticed that people who don't have shoulders on their own day have a big gap between their bench and overhead press.

would it be okay if I was to move shoulders to the rest day and not have a rest day? I will be taking days off throughout the routine as I work long/hard and firewood season is starting (700 cords are waiting to be split). Plus I lift at home in a main room and my sister has friends over for entire days/weekends fairly often, and I dont really want to lift with all those female eyes on me, just yet....

How old are you and your sister's friends? My sister was two years younger and it was something I benefited from for sure

You need mandatory rest days. You muscles don't grow if your body doesn't have time to rest. Eventually, it will catch up with you. There were periods of time where I was training 6-7 days a week. In hindsight, that was a big mistake.

I'm 17, sisters 2 years younger too!

looks like xil3 agrees with the rest days, so I'll definitely take some off as I need/ life forces, but if I take too long off without a good explanation neg me or something

I would continue with the split the way you have it now... Shoulders also get worked on your back and chest workouts, and I don't think you need to be putting a lot of effort into them right now. They will be fine paired up with legs IMO. Later on you may want to go to a more advanced split and give shoulders their own day, but I wouldn't worry about that right now. You definitely need that day off occasionally, so don't remove that from your schedule.
I still don't do any presses on shoulder days because they get worked well from my chest and back workouts. Also splitting wood and running a chainsaw is a great workout for the delts and traps.
