Default Weight lifting belts

I've decided upon buying a belt after lifting somewhat heavy on deadlifts without one and feeling like I would be hurting my back if I didn't wear one and deadlifted a few times a week.

I'm not sure why this one is so cheap for $13... but it's a 6" black leather Valeo VRL double-buckle belt. Pretty standard, right? Amazon.com: Valeo VRL 6" Padded Leather Belt: Sports & Outdoors

But I was wondering what good, if any, buying one of these neoprene wraps would do, to either put under or on top of the belt. Since they're only 5-10 bucks I thought it wouldn't hurt to experiment.

Amazon.com: Altus Athletic NB-9V SM/XL Neoprene Waist Trimmer: Sports & Outdoors
Amazon.com: Valeo Neoprene Waist Trimmer: Sports & Outdoors
Amazon.com: Bell Fitness Solar Belt (One Size Fits Most): Sports & Outdoors

what do you guise use?

have you erver used a Power Lifting Belt????

they are built different if you notice the one you are considering purchasing is wide in the back and slimmer in the front the leather is not that thick either. I would suggest going to inzer.net and look at the belts there. they are more expensive but you get what you pay for. you want a belt that is the same witdth all the way around and thick. the pad on the back does not help at all. if you know anybody who trains with one ask to try it out and you will see what I am talking about on the width part. the belts that are slimmer in the front do not support you abbs and guts and you want that support just as much as you do for your back. when you are pulling heavy weight your abbs need something to push against.

as far as the other thing I wouldnt put it on under the weight belt or over it I would use it while doing cardio that way you will sweat more and burn more calories that way. but be careful with those things you will definately loose alot of water weight with those and you could get dehydrated. not saying that you didn't know that already just offering the info and knowing from personal experience.

Ok JCounts I read up on some belts the only argument I see you have is belt thickness. I think the Inzer (amongst other brands) belts are better quality and thicker, but as far as intra-abdominal pressure that Valeo belt will work just fine.

Inzer's belts cost more than I'd like to spend, most of them being $100+ and the darn things are practically an inch thick. Way overkill for me

The $15 quarter inch leather belts will be better than nothing, especially after I read that they're really stiff when new and have to be broken in

I'm just going to pick up this up for the hell of it, if it doesn't do anything for core support I'll just use it for cardio like you said:

we can just borrow them at our gym, they are same width all the way around, pretty thick, I'd say half an inch. works like a charm.

Jcouts,
Sorry about the misspelling of your name. No argument here I think the inexpensive belt he posted will offer good intra-abdominal pressure for now compared to none at all (which he was currently using). If anyone could afford a better quality belt I suggest they purchase one.

I lift in the APF, AAPF, and the PPL

and they only only require that the belt is the same width all the way around they won't let you use one that is wider in the back than in the front.

I don't know about the other associations though.
